Liquid Friendships

Oh God, I can't be bothered. I don't really want to go to the double concert of Mozart's requiem followed by Faure's requiem (I'm not making this up btw, this is the REAL programme). But my new friend John B invited me, he's singing in it. I wonder if he really wants me to come, if it is a move to build "things we have in common and can reminisce about" - we all need some of that- or if it was a casual invite.

Isn't this a wonderful age and time, nurturing our future "facebook" friendships? John B and I will quite possibly never meet again after this academic year is over. Still, I like him and I'll have to gladly inhabit my interesting century of globalisation and liquid love, it's the only one I've got. A song springs to mind, for auld lang syne....

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup of kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!

And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp,
And surely I'll be mine,
And we'll tak a cup o kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!

We twa hae run about the braes,
And pou'd the gowans fine,
But we've wander'd monie a weary fit,
Sin auld lang syne.

We twa hae paidl'd in the burn
Frae morning sun till dine,
But seas between us braid hae roar'd
Sin auld lang syne.

And there's a hand my trusty fiere,
And gie's a hand o thine,
And we'll tak a right guid-willie waught,
For auld lang syne
